Design Brief

Farmstation is a smart appliance that enables users to grow fresh produce at home using hydroponic technology, making urban farming more accessible.

With rising urbanization, access to pesticide-free, fresh produce is becoming limited. Hydroponics offers a sustainable, space-efficient solution.

Ideation

Various volumetrics were explored to fit everything in the desired dimensions. Developed a modular hydroponic system incorporating automation, app connectivity, and multi-chamber growing environments.

Prototyping

The prototyping phase involved multiple iterations to ensure automation, scalability, and ease of use:​

  • Automation Testing: Integrated IoT-based monitoring for real-time tracking of water levels, nutrient distribution, and plant growth cycles.

  • Material Selection: Evaluated food-safe plastics and sustainable materials for long-term durability and efficiency.

  • Functionality Tests: Validated germination, growth, and harvesting efficiency using different plant species.
    The final prototype demonstrated 30% increased yield efficiency, user-friendly automation, and a compact form factor suitable for urban homes.
